Reach South Academy Trust is seeking to appoint an exceptional Designated Safeguarding Officer to join the school in September 2020.

Start Date: September 2020
Location: High Street Primary Academy, Stonehouse, Plymouth, PL1 3SJ
Salary Range: Grade F - £26,317 rising to a maximum of £28,785 pro rata per annum
Hours/Contract: Term time only, Part-time, Temporary contract until 31 August 2021: 35 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
The Role: High Street Primary Academy is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Designated Safeguarding Officer to join our team. As the designated lead for safeguarding, you will be required to take the day-to-day responsibility for ensuring that you identify and respond appropriately to any concerns relating to children’s safety and well-being. You will take the lead on responding to information that may constitute a child protection concern and inform the strategic designated safeguarding lead of your actions. This will include, assessing and clarifying the information, making referrals to children’s social care, consulting with and informing the relevant members of staff within the school and Reach South Academy Trust.
The Person: This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated, self-sufficient, dynamic and very well organised individual to be part of a fast-growing team. You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and be able to adapt your communication style to a diverse range of audiences. You will liaise with parents/carers when appropriate to do so.
We are looking for people who have the following experience and qualities:
Ability to work with a range of people with the aim of ensuring the safety and welfare of children
Awareness of local and national agencies that provide support for children and their families
Excellent record keeping skills and attention to detail, in order to produce reports, take minutes of meetings, and document safeguarding concerns
Good IT skills, including previous use of CPOMS or other online Safeguarding systems
Experience of handling sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality
Awareness of, and compliance with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection
Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and other stakeholders
Understand the assessment process for providing early help and intervention
Encourage a culture of listening to children among all staff, ensuring that children’s feelings are heard where the school puts measures in place to protect them
School Background: High Street Primary School is a popular and successful primary school. We were founded in 1894 and we have a great history. There is a strong family atmosphere in our school, the children feel safe and cared for.
Trust Background: Reach South is a young and developing Trust which operates across the South West of England with the aim of delivering all through 3-19 education. We operate 14 academies in Plymouth, Bournemouth, Dorset and Wiltshire.
