Stuart Road Academy ‘Wellbeing Warriors’ Raise Funds and Awareness for Mind Plymouth

Stuart Road Academy Pupils Champion Mental Health Through Community Fundraising

Pupils at Stuart Road Academy have spent recent weeks raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing while supporting local charity Mind Plymouth through a series of student-led fundraising events.

The initiative was organised by the school's ‘Wellbeing Warriors’, a group of pupils dedicated to promoting positive mental health and supporting the wellbeing of their peers. Together, they planned and led a programme of activities designed to bring the school community together while encouraging conversations about mental health.

The campaign culminated in a celebration event on the 13th of July, where pupils presented the funds they had raised to representatives from Mind Plymouth.

The school chose to support Mind Plymouth because of its vital work supporting people across the local community and because staff and pupils wanted to ensure that conversations around mental health continued long after Mental Health Awareness Week had ended.

Throughout the campaign, pupils took part in a range of activities linked to the school's wellbeing values, including exercise, charity, togetherness and positivity. The events involved children from across the school, including the youngest pupils in nursery and early years classes helping to create a whole school focus on emotional wellbeing.

The initiative reflects Stuart Road Academy's commitment to supporting the wellbeing of all pupils and helping children understand the importance of looking after both their own mental health and that of others.

Michelle Riley, interim headteacher at Stuart Road Academy, said:

"Our Wellbeing Warriors have been absolutely fantastic throughout this project. They identified a cause that was important to them, organised a range of activities and worked incredibly hard to raise awareness of mental health across the school. We wanted this to be more than a one-off event and instead create lasting conversations around wellbeing, and our pupils have achieved exactly that.

"We are incredibly proud of the compassion and enthusiasm they have shown and delighted to be able to support the important work of Mind Plymouth."
