Kelly‑Leigh Kulyk Appointed Headteacher of New Gloucestershire Special School, GAIL

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kelly‑Leigh Kulyk as the Headteacher of GAIL (Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning), our brand‑new special school set to open in early 2027.

GAIL will provide 200 places for children aged 4–16 with moderate and additional learning difficulties, including autism and speech, language and communication needs. The school will bring high‑quality, inclusive specialist education closer to families across Gloucestershire, helping to meet growing demand for local SEND provision.

Leading the Development of a New Centre for SEND Excellence

As Headteacher, Kelly‑Leigh will oversee the development and opening of GAIL—working closely with the Trust, local authorities, professionals and families to create a nurturing, aspirational and inclusive environment from day one.

With a career rooted in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), she brings deep expertise in supporting children with a wide range of needs, including autism, severe learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs. Her leadership is driven by a strong belief that every child deserves the support and opportunities required to thrive.

Kelly‑Leigh has held several senior leadership roles and is widely recognised for championing the transformative power of excellent SEND provision. Her current school was recently named Secondary School of the Year at the Education Awards, and her previous experience in establishing a new special school further strengthens her vision for GAIL.

Over the coming months, Kelly‑Leigh will begin working with families, local partners and specialist teams to shape GAIL’s ethos, culture and curriculum as preparations continue for the school’s opening in 2027.

A Welcome from the Trust

Tom Leverage, CEO of Reach South Academy Trust, said:

“We are delighted to appoint Kelly‑Leigh as Headteacher of GAIL. She brings exceptional experience, clarity of vision and a strong moral purpose that aligns closely with our values as a Trust. Her leadership will be central to creating a school rooted in belonging and aspiration, and we are excited to work alongside her as GAIL comes to life.”

We look forward to the exciting journey ahead as GAIL takes shape and begins to serve children and families across Gloucestershire.
