Celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week at Drake Primary Academy

This week, pupils at Drake Primary Academy, are taking part in a series of activities to mark Children’s Mental Health Week, a national initiative led by Place2Be to raise awareness of the importance of young people’s wellbeing.

This year’s theme, This Is My Place, focuses on belonging, encouraging children to explore what makes them feel valued, included, and connected. At Drake Primary, the week begins with a special assembly on belonging, followed by daily classroom activities. Pupils will create personal maps to highlight the people, places, and moments where they feel they truly belong.

The school continues to benefit from the support of Livewell Southwest, whose workshops, focus groups, and one‑to‑one sessions help embed a whole‑school approach to emotional wellbeing. Their ongoing partnership offers early support for pupils who may need a little extra help.

Jacqueline Stephens, Executive Headteacher, shared:
“We are looking forward to Mental Health Week and the chance for our pupils to reflect on what makes them feel included and valued. The activities will help pupils think about their own wellbeing and the importance of supporting one another.”

It’s inspiring to see Plymouth pupils engaging so thoughtfully with wellbeing and belonging. These early conversations can make a meaningful difference — not just this week, but throughout their lives.
